Lay it Down

I am always on the look out for songs, poems, and encouraging words that can be with us during our times of grief to help encourage us that God is there and loves us. I think of my friend Andi (Funky Monkey) who is recovering from a miscarriage as well as other friends in my life who are reeling from the illness of a child or ta dissapointing prenatal diagnosis (you all know who you are.) I am so sorry for your pain and hope that this song's words will help you wherever you are in the process of grief. God is there even when it doesn't feel like He is. I'm not sharing this song to say "Hey, lay it down and get over with it." I am sharing it to say, keep trying to give it to God. He can handle it. It's not easy. I still haven't managed to completely give Him the pain of barrenness. But He is there. He loves you in the midst of your grief.

Lay It Down
By: Jaci Velasquez

I've been lookin' till my eyes are tired of lookin'
Listenin' till my ears are numb from listenin'
Prayin' till my knees are sore from kneelin' on the bedroom floor
I know that you know that my heart is achin'
I'm running out of tears and my will is breakin'
I don't think that I can carry the burden of it anymore
All of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans,
Are slowly slippin' through my folded hands

Chorus:
So I'm gonna lay it down
I'm gonna learn to trust You now
What else can I do?
Cause everything I am depends on You
And if the sun don't come back up
I know Your love will be enough
I'm gonna let it be,
I'm gonna let it go,
I'm gonna lay it down.

I've been walkin' through this world like I'm barely livin'
Buried in the doubt of this hole I've been diggin'
But You're pullin' me out
I'm finally breathin' in the open air
This room may be dark but I'm finally seein'
There's a new ray of hope, and now I'm believin'
That the past is past, and the future's beginning to look brighter now
Oh, cause all of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans
Are safe and secure when I place them in Your hands

Chorus:
So I'm gonna lay it down
I'm gonna learn to trust You now
Oh what else can I do,
Cause everything I am depends on You
And if the sun don't come back up
I know Your love will be enough
I'm gonna let it be,
I'm gonna let it go,
I'm gonna lay it down
I'm gonna lay it down
I'm gonna lay it down.

Thanks Wendi, it's good of you to share in the pain rather than try to pull us out.

Beth, I think that's what the big mistake is ... people who are in grief don't need to be pulled out. They need to be walked along side of as they walk through it. Somehow, as Christians, we believe grief should be quick and then get out. I don't know where this idea came from but it ends up making the person who is in the grief feel like they are doing something wrong.

Anyways, sorry for the sermon. :)

Thank you for that song and for the gentle reminder. I very much agree that those that hurt need someone walking beside them.

Thanks for your words and the video. You're right... Knowing we have sisters and brothers in Christ walking alongside and hand-in-hand has been carrying our family though this difficult time. Blessings, Wendi.
